Happiness Comes First

Most people think of happiness the wrong way.
In fact, our society as a whole thinks of happiness the wrong way.

Most of us had this faulty image of happiness passed down to us from our parents.

We are told becoming happy is pretty simple:

You do great work.
Then you become successful.
And then you’ll be happy!

When we go to school,
We are told to study hard.
Then we’ll get good grades.
And then we’ll be happy!

When we get a job,
We are told to work hard.
Then we'll make a lot of money.
And then we’ll be happy!

But at least in my experience,
That has NEVER worked.

And I believe that it can never work.

The one thing we get wrong is this:

We think of happiness as a RESULT.

We believe that we have to achieve something and have to become someone to become happy.

But this illusion is so very misleading that it actually causes us to be quite unhappy.

If you recall my Grab Disappointment by the Roots post,
All this does is form expectations.

If you work hard and do "great work", you will expect to be happy in return.
Because that’s the whole reason you’re working hard in the first place!

More often than not, however, we will be very disappointed with the outcome…
Because it is not happiness.
It never is.

But it doesn’t have to be that way…
In fact, it shouldn’t be that way!
Because that’s not how it works.
That’s never how it worked.

Nobody has ever become happy this way.

Happiness has to come first.
You have to be happy before anything else.

Happiness is the STARTING POINT, not the destination.

Be happy first,
And you will do great work!

Be happy first,
And you will become successful!

If you observe carefully,
The most successful people,
The people that do the best work out there,
The people that everyone admires,
Are not the people that worked hard to become happy.

They are the people that made happiness come first.
They are the people that found happiness within themselves first.
Consequently, they were able to do great work because they were happy.
Their work is a reflection of their own happiness,
And that’s precisely the reason it is so great!

Their work is their vehicle for spreading their happiness in the world.

True happiness cannot come from an external source,
It has to come from within.

Finding happiness within yourself is the single most important objective in life.

After all, a heartbreak is simply a wakeup call that any external source can never and should never serve as your primary source of happiness.

Become your own source of happiness.

If you find your own happiness within,
You WILL do great work.
You WILL become successful.

And you know what’s the best part about making happiness come first?

You will always be happy.

Cheers.

Stay tuned.
